Creating a Buzz… the Glasgow Bee Trail

If you’ve taken a walk around the surrounding streets of Glasgow Royal Infirmary recently you may have spotted some busy bees on local landmarks. Studio Mariscat was commissioned by the Friends of Royal Glasgow Infirmary to create the 25 bees that form the Glasgow Bee Trail, which highlights buildings and places integral to the Infirmary’s history as well as referencing the beehives located on the hospital grounds.

The trail officially launches on the 23rd and 24th May 2026. Participants can pick up a map of the art trail from the FoGRI museum which also currently has a fantastic exhibition on the history of Rottenrow Maternity Hospital. The 2.5km trail is perfect if you’re looking for a child friendly activity in Glasgow, taking in sights including the Necropolis and Glasgow Cathedral.

Casting process of jesmonite AC730 bees for art trail

Each bee was hand cast in Jesmonite by Studio Mariscat to a design based on the FoGRI logo. The bees were then sanded to a smooth finish and sealed.
