Studio Mariscat jewellery is handcrafted in Glasgow using a curated mix of materials chosen for their texture, colour, and sculptural quality. Our main collections feature jesmonite, a lightweight, durable material known for its vibrant matte finish and architectural feel. Each piece is then finished with a beeswax and coconut oil sealant to enhance the vinvrancy of the Jesmonite.
We also have a range of rings and necklaces made from PLA, which allow for playful, affordable designs with a contemporary twist.
All earring studs are surgical stainless steel.
Each material is selected to complement our focus on bold geometry, colourful expression, and design-led jewellery made in the UK. All pieces are produced in small batches, allowing for hands-on experimentation and a tactile, thoughtful approach to making.

Jesmonite is a composite material made from a gypsum-based mineral powder and a water-based acrylic resin, originally developed in the UK in the 1980s. Known for its durability, lightweight feel, and matte finish, jesmonite has become a favourite among designers and artists for creating sculptural, colourful objects, from home décor to handmade jewellery.
At Studio Mariscat, we use jesmonite to craft bold, architectural jewellery that celebrates geometric form and vibrant colour. Its versatility allows for small-batch casting, pigment blending, and tactile surface finishes, making it ideal for expressive, design-led pieces that stand out.
Jesmonite is also considered a more eco-conscious alternative to traditional resins, thanks to its low VOC emissions and water-based formulation.

PLA (Polylactic Acid) is a bioplastic made from renewable resources like cornstarch or sugarcane. It’s lightweight, versatile, and known for its eco-friendly properties, making it an ideal material for 3D printing affordable, colourful jewellery. At Studio Mariscat, we use PLA to create playful, design-led pieces that are comfortable to wear and visually striking.
Unlike petroleum-based plastics, PLA is biodegradable under industrial composting conditions.

To keep your handmade jewellery from Studio Mariscat looking vibrant and fresh, a little care goes a long way. Here are some tips to help preserve colour, texture, and form:
General Jewellery Care
Always remove jewellery before showering, swimming, or exercising.
Apply perfumes, lotions, and sprays before putting on your jewellery to avoid residue buildup.
Store pieces in a cool, dry place—ideally in a soft pouch or airtight container to prevent scratches and tarnish.
Jesmonite Jewellery
Jesmonite is durable but porous—avoid prolonged exposure to water or oils.
Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
Keep out of direct sunlight to preserve pigment vibrancy over time.
Silver Jewellery
Silver may naturally tarnish. Use a silver polishing cloth to restore shine.
For deeper cleaning, soak in warm water with mild soap, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
Avoid chemical dips, which can damage delicate finishes or loosen resin inlays.
Bioplastic and Resin Jewellery
PLA bioplastic is lightweight and eco-conscious, but sensitive to heat.
Wipe clean with a damp cloth and avoid leaving in hot cars or near radiators.
Studio Mariscat jewellery is designed to be playful, expressive, and wearable, with the right care, your pieces will stay bold and beautiful for years to come.

At Studio Mariscat, I believe in transparency and thoughtful making. All jewellery is handcrafted in Glasgow using materials like jesmonite, silver, and PLA bioplastic, with a strong focus on reducing waste and environmental impact.
Jesmonite is a lightweight, durable material with a ceramic-like finish, but like any composite, it requires care in handling. I reuse leftover chips, wet-sand to prevent dust, and filter runoff to keep microplastics out of the water system. Moulds are designed to minimise waste, and I seal pieces with a natural beeswax and coconut oil blend.
I also use cornstarch based PLA filament to create 3D printed masters and favour made-to-order jewellery to avoid overproduction. Packaging is kept minimal and recyclable, because bold design shouldn’t come at the planet’s expense.
